Several things I do are volunteering at a soup kitchen, helping my girl scout troop with our service projects, and applying to work with young people at Rec & Ed, Youth Volunteer Corps, children’s theater groups, and summer camps like Camp Al-Gon-Quian. Those times, as well as vacations, I find my own way to volunteer. Sometime, however, there are months when they just don’t give us members a chance to volunteer as much.

I have less time to give back to my community, but when I have the free time, and the club gives me the opportunity, I volunteer. Today, in High School, I am a member of Interact club. As I started to volunteer (slowly, but surely), I realized that other groups in our society need help, too. This sharp division in class bothered me, and when I returned to the U.S., I noticed these divisions were here as well, even if they weren’t as prevalent.

The people who weren’t were generally rich. Most of the time, we were surrounded by luxury, but when we took walks around the cities, I noticed most people were living in extreme poverty. When I was 13, my family took a trip to visit our relatives in Peru. Because the National Honor Society is a group that organized kids that aspire to learn as much as they can, I think I would fit in well. Fantasy, mystery, science fiction, nonfiction, I’ll read it all, but history is my true passion. Outside the walls of school, I like to discover new things. Also, I value my electives and only take ones that I feel will advance my learning experience, not ones that I can slack off in. I take as many advanced classes as I think I can handle. School is my number one priority, and I aim to be a high achiever. To this day, academics are of utmost importance to me. Asking questions and learning about everything in sight was my hobby. I can only hope that I embody the characteristics of the Society and am seen as a contribution to it.Įver since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated with the world around me. There is really no other club like it, and it would be an honor for me to be accepted. It has also grouped them with other similar students who have a love of learning. From stories I’ve heard from my upperclassmen friends that are a part of the National Honor Society, my understanding is that it has helped build their character, helped them to learn to be leaders, and involved them in their community through service. Life can seem unmanageable, but if you do it right, you can maintain a good standard in all areas.

Despite all of this, I have found a balance. To add on to it all, we must be successful at our tremendous amounts of school work. We as students must have a delicate equilibrium between our frantic home lives, our exciting social lives, our health, and even our extracurricular activities. Classmates judge everything about you – from your shoes to your voice. Enemies confront you with threats of gossip. Friends come and try to distract you with vivid tales of their weekends. Walking through the hallways of high school everyday can be stressful. (There is also a service and leadership resume we must fill out) Please illustrate the discussion with significant examples from your life and knowledge that demonstrate the attributes discussed. You should discuss your understanding of the mission of NHS and the contribution you would make to the organization.

Please write an essay explaining your reasons for wanting to be a member of NHS. You have been invited to join NHS to apply based on your grade point average, but in order to be a member you must demonstrate attributes that cannot be discerned from numbers on a page. I would be extremely grateful if you would proof read my essay and help me with it! Thank you so much! (It's do tomorrow soihavetogetitdone.) Also, should it be double, 1.5, or single spaced? So, let's just say I'm not the best writer around.
